Utility Mapping

Immediately following the locating and marking of underground utilities, OTM technicians collect relevant field measurements and/or GPS data to create or update physical maps/prints or an electronic map of the utilities.  Maps are provided as hard copy print, .pdf files, Computer Aided Design (CAD) files, or Geographic Information System (GIS) file formats.  All maps include code rule 753 color coded utilities with symbols explaining existing structures, original on-site building size and measurements.  

 

NYS Code Rule 753 requires all underground utilities to be located and marked prior to excavation work.  Therefore, maps are for reference purposes only.  They are not to be used as a substitute for future locating. Instead, they are to be used as reference.
